The present invention relates to a novel block copolymer of the following structure (1). In structure (1), A is a block polymer chain and B is a block polymer chain, wherein A and B are chemically different, phase separable into a covalently bonded polymer chain, and a moiety X(Y(Z) b ) a is a bonding group comprising a surface active pendant moiety Y(Z) b ; where a represents the number of surface active pendant moieties Y(Z) b on X by an integer of 1 to 4, b represents the number of Z moieties on the linking moiety Y by an integer of 1 to 5, and X is A linking group between the polymer block, B polymer block and moiety Y, Y is a linking group between X and Z or a direct valence bond; Z is a moiety independently selected from a fluorine comprising moiety, a Si 1 -Si 8 siloxane comprising moiety, or a hydrocarbon moiety having at least 18 carbons, wherein the junction group X(Y(Z) b ) a has less surface energy than block A and less than block B. The present invention also relates to compositions comprising the novel copolymers and their use in induced self-assembly processes. |
