abstract The present invention provides Thermococcus onnurineus WTF-156T (Accession No. KCTC13132BP) in which alanine at position 52 of the formic acid transporter is mutated to threonine with increased hydrogen production capacity. In addition, the present invention provides a method for producing hydrogen using the strain. The hermococcus onnurineus WTF-156T strain according to the present invention can produce more hydrogen from formic acid compared to the wild current strain. The hydrogen production method according to the present invention can produce hydrogen at low cost.
