abstract The present invention provides a semiconductor device that functions as a programmable logic device excellent in reliability and low power consumption. A monitor circuit is provided, wherein the monitor circuit monitors a potential change in a configuration memory that holds an electric charge by turning off the transistor and stores a potential corresponding to the electric charge as configuration data, and resets the configuration data according to the electric potential change. The configuration is a controlled configuration. With the above configuration, reconfiguration of the configuration memory can be performed before the configuration data is lost, so that a semiconductor device having excellent reliability can be obtained. In addition, since reconfiguration can be performed in response to data loss, power consumption can be reduced compared to a configuration in which reconfiguration is performed regularly.
