abstract Individual biological cells can be selected in the micro-fluidic device and transferred into isolation pens on the device. The cells can then be lysed in the pens to release the nucleic acid material that can be captured by one or more capture objects in the pens. Capture objects with the captured nucleic acid material can then be removed from the pens. Capture objects may include unique identifiers to enable each capture object to be correlated to an individual cell from which the nucleic acid material captured by the object originates.
