Breath actuated nebulizer |
abstract |
A breath-operated nebulizer for administering an inhaled drug to a patient is provided with a generally cylindrical body that is directed to the patient in a radial direction. In the body there is a venturi configured to spray a liquid drug in the reservoir. In the body there is a shaft integral with a baffle and a diaphragm that slides horizontally in response to the patient's breathing. While the patient inhales, the diaphragm bends over the venturi with the movement of the baffle to generate a nebulization. Due to the patient's exhalation, the diaphragm bends to a default position where the baffle is spaced from the venturi, whereby spraying is stopped. The diaphragm is deflected to remain in the default position until the patient inhales again. |
