titleOfInvention Safeguarding techniques for a closed-loop insulin infusion system
abstract A processor-implemented method of controlling an insulin infusion device for a user is provided herein. The first method obtains and analyzes a correction factor (and corresponding timestamp data) for a continuous glucose sensor, and adjusts the entry of the injection device into a closed-loop operating mode based on the correction factor and timestamp data. The second method obtains the most recent sensor glucose value and target glucose setpoint value for the user at the start of the closed-loop mode. The second method adjusts the closed-loop insulin infusion rate over time in response to the sensor glucose value and the set point value. The third method calculates the upper insulin limit applied to the insulin infusion rate during closed-loop mode. The insulin limit is calculated based on the user's fasting blood glucose value, the user's total daily insulin value, and fasting insulin delivery data for the user.
