abstract The present invention provides a trihalide ion solution in a styrene divinylbenzene polymer resin having a polymer-linked -ER 3 + X - group, wherein E is N, P or As, R is a hydrocarbon group, and X is Cl, Br or I. It relates to a method for producing a trihalide resin to be contacted. Tri-halide ion is Cl 3 - may be -, Br 3 - or I 3. The present invention relates to a method for producing a trichloride resin, and a styrene divinylbenzene polymer resin having a polymer-linked -ER 3 + Cl - group in contact with chlorine. Trichloride resin can be used as a solid equivalent of chlorine gas. -ER 3 + Cl - form of the styrene-divinylbenzene resin containing a unit -ER 3 + Cl 3 - may be used to find the chlorine from a gas or a solid to form a styrene-divinylbenzene resin containing a unit.
