abstract | Composites of lithium ion conductive ceramic materials and polymer materials make excellent separators and electrolytes used in lithium batteries. The ceramic material provides a high conductivity path for lithium ions, thereby improving the properties of the low conductivity polymer material. The polymer material provides flexibility, bondability and space-filling properties, alleviating the tendency of the hard ceramic material to break or peel. The interface between the polymer and ceramic can have low ionic resistance through the use of additives and coatings. |
