titleOfInvention Fibrous nonwoven web with uniform, directionally-oriented projections and a process and apparatus for making the same
abstract The method and apparatus are used to produce a fibrous nonwoven web having uniformly oriented oriented projections by depositing a fibrous material on a first forming surface having a hole positioned over the second forming surface, wherein the two forming The surfaces move at different speeds. When the fibers are deposited on the first forming surface, a portion of the fibers are dragged down into the hole in the first forming surface to form a protrusion that contacts the second forming surface. Because of the difference in speed between the two forming surfaces, the projections are uniformly deflected in the same direction. The resulting material may be more abrasive in one direction, but in the opposite direction it is particularly suitable for use as a wiping material that becomes a dual-purpose material with a softer feel when wiped.
