titleOfInvention | Variable focus electroactive ophthalmic device |
abstract | A variable focus ophthalmic device is described. The device includes a front curved optical portion of a variable focus ophthalmic device comprising a front curved upper optical surface and a front curved lower optical surface, and a rear curved surface of a variable focus ophthalmic device comprising a rear curved upper optical surface and a rear curved lower optical surface. It includes an optical section. The cavity is formed by the front curved lower optical surface of the front curved optical portion of the variable focus ophthalmic device and the rear curved upper optical surface of the rear curved portion of the variable focus ophthalmic device. A first fluid having a first refractive index and a second fluid having a second refractive index are provided, the first refractive index and the second refractive index being different, and the two fluids are immiscible. A dielectric film overlying an electrode capable of establishing an electric field and contacting at least a portion of one or more of the first or second fluid is provided. At least one reservoir area for containment of a volume of fluid equal to or approximately equal to the volume of the first fluid, the reservoir being at least one reservoir area in fluid communication with the formed cavity. |
