abstract According to the present invention, lithium carbonate is dissolved in low temperature water at high solids concentration ratio (S / L) to remove insoluble matters by filtration to remove sulfate ions firstly, and a precipitant for forming sulfate ions and water insoluble salts is added. There is provided a method for purifying lithium carbonate that removes sulfate ions by secondary removal of precipitated water-insoluble sulfate by filtration to remove sulfate ions and heating the resulting solution to recrystallize lithium carbonate. The lithium carbonate refining method of the present invention can provide a high-purity lithium carbonate that can be utilized as a battery-grade lithium carbonate by economically and efficiently removing impurity sulfate ions from lithium carbonate recovered from commercial lithium carbonate or spent lithium batteries.
