titleOfInvention |
A synthetic biocidal surface comprising an array of nanospikes |
abstract |
The present invention relates to materials exhibiting bactericidal action and in particular to surfaces exhibiting novel surface phases that are lethal to cells upon contact with the cells. The invention also relates to devices comprising such surfaces, methods of making such surfaces, and methods of exposing cells to such surfaces to reduce cell survival or to remove cells. In particular, the present invention relates to a synthetic sterile surface comprising a nanospike array, wherein the nanospike is capable of killing the cell by penetrating the cell membrane of the cell on the surface, and the substrate surface comprising silicon. A method of making a synthetic sterile surface comprising a nanospike array, comprising exposing to ion etching, wherein the nanospike kills the cell by penetrating the cell membrane of the cell on the surface. It is about. |
