abstract | A method of polymerizing ethylene in the presence of a metal complex of formula I as described herein comprising oxygen and a metal selected from one of Groups 3 to 6 bonded to an aryl group via two Z groups. The aryl group is hydrogen, halo, hydrocarbyl, trihydrocarbylsilyl, trihydrocarbylsilylhydrocarbyl, -O (R), -N (R'R "), -S (R"'), or- A substituent R 1a, R 1aa to R 15a, R 15aa selected from P (R IV R V ); Each of R, R ', R ", R"', R IV and R V are described herein. Two X groups are also bonded to the metal, each of which is a halo, hydrocarbyl, or trihydrocarbylsilyl group. Each Z is O, S, N (C 1 -C 40 ) hydrocarbyl, or P (C 1 -C 40 ) hydrocarbyl. The groups Y and L form part of the crosslinking between the Z groups. Y is halo, hydrocarbyl, trihydrocarbylsilyl, trihydrocarbylsilylhydrocarbyl, -O (R VI ), -N (R VII R VIII ), -S (R IX ), or -P ( R X R XI ); Each of R VI , R VII , R VIII , R IX , R X and R XI is described herein. L is (C 1 -C 40 ) hydrocarbylene or (C 1 -C 40 ) heterohydrocarbylene. The present invention also provides formula (I). |
