abstract | The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of a lactic acid oligomer comprising the steps of: - providing a solution of lactic acid in a volatile organic solvent; - treating the solution with a volatile organic solvent and a vaporization step to remove water to form a composition comprising a lactic acid oligomer; Adding a catalyst to the composition and introducing reaction conditions into the mixture to form a lactide. The process according to the invention has been found to result in the efficient production of lactide with a high production rate and good product quality. |
