titleOfInvention | Electrical devices containing carbon nanotube-infused fibers and methods for production thereof |
abstract | An electrical apparatus having a plurality of stacked electrode layers is described. At least one of the electrode layers includes continuous fibers into which carbon nanotubes are injected. The continuous fibers may be disposed on an electrically conductive base plate. The electrical device may further include a layer of a serpentine material disposed between the respective electrode layers and an electrolyte in contact with the respective electrode layer, in which case the electrical device may form a supercapacitor. Such a supercapacitor may have a capacitance of at least about 1 Farad / continuous fiber gram. The capacitance can be increased by coating at least a part of the injected carbon nanotubes with a material, for example, a conductive polymer, a main group metal compound, and / or a transition metal compound. A method of manufacturing the electrical device is also described. |
