Varying effective resolution by screen location by altering rasterization parameters |
abstract |
Data representing at least one vertex for a scene in the virtual space is received. Elementary element assembly is performed at the vertex to calculate the projection of the vertex onto the viewport of the scene in the screen space of the display device comprising a plurality of pixels subdivided into a plurality of subdivisions from the virtual space. The scan transformation determines which pixel of the plurality of pixels is part of each basic element converted into screen space coordinates. The rough rasterization for each primitive determines which sub-compartment or sub-compartments the primitives overlap. The metadata associated with the sub-section in which the primitives overlap overlaps the pixel resolution for the sub-section. The metadata is used to generate a final pixel value for the viewport of a scene that is displayed on the display device in such a way that scene portions in two different sub-divisions have different pixel resolutions. |
