titleOfInvention | Combinations including cry34ab/35ab and cry3ba proteins to prevent development of resistance in corn rootworms (diabrotica spp.) |
abstract | The present invention relates to Cry34Ab / 35Ab in combination with Cry3Ba. The present invention surprisingly finds that Cry34Ab / Cry35Ab and Cry3Ba are useful for inhibiting resistance development (for one of the single live insecticidal protein systems) by a population of maize root worms ( Diabrotica spp.) . One of ordinary skill in the art will appreciate the benefits of this disclosure in that plants producing these insecticidal Cry proteins would be useful in alleviating the concern that the corn rootworm population may develop resistance to one of these insecticidal protein systems alone Will recognize. The present invention is supported in part by the discovery that the components of these Cry protein systems do not compete with each other for the binding of maize root worm receptor. The invention also relates, in part, to a triple stack or "pyramid" of three (or more) toxin systems in which Cry34Ab / Cry35Ab and Cry3Ba base pairs. Thus, plants that produce these two insecticidal protein systems (and the cultivated areas where the plants are grown) are also within the scope of the present invention. |
