abstract | The present invention provides a process for preparing a mixture of a monoalkyltin trihalide or monoalkyltin trihalide and a dialkyltin dihalide comprising the steps of: (a) reacting a tetraalkyltin halide, Contacting the dialkyltin dihalide with an alkylating agent and, optionally, a tin tetrahalide, to form a tetraalkyltin mixture comprising a tin dihalide; (b) reacting the tetraalkyltin mixture with a tin tetrahalide to form a monoalkyltin trihalide, a dialkyltin dihalide and, optionally, a monoalkyltin trihalide mixture comprising a trialkyltin halide, ; (c) treating the monoalkyltin trihalide mixture to separately recover the dialkyltin dihalide stream comprising the monoalkyltin trihalide and, optionally, the trialkyltin halide; And (d) circulating at least a portion of the dialkyltin dihalide stream recovered in step (c) to step (a). |
