abstract | The present invention provides an improved method of controlling air contamination. Combustion gases are passed through a solution of an alkaline earth metal sulfide and a redox buffer (e.g., a mono alkaline earth metal phosphate salt) in combination with a preferably but not essential alkaline earth metal carbonate FGD system. The reagents are provided in a fully soluble form which enables cost reduction and enables retrofitting of existing equipment, and also includes the alkaline earth metal base salt to advantageously provide stability of the process product. When the solution reaches a pH of 4.5 to 6.5 in an acidic environment in the conduit carrying the combustion flue gas, the reagents co-precipitate. |
