titleOfInvention | Method of dissociating an organoborane-amine complex |
abstract | The present invention relates to a method for dissociating an organoborane-amine complex in a coating composition. The process of the present invention comprises introducing an organoborane-amine complex, a radically polymerizable compound, and optionally an amine onto a substrate to form a coating composition. The method also includes introducing carbon dioxide into the coating composition such that the molar ratio of carbon dioxide: free amine groups present in the coating composition is 1: 1 or greater. More particularly, the carboxylic acid zwitterion the in-situ by the reaction of carbon dioxide with the free amine group - is formed by (in situ). Formation of carbamic acid amphoteric ion induces dissociation and radical formation of organic borane-amine complexes. The radicals are then used to polymerize the radically polymerizable compounds. |
