Discloses potassium cesium tungsten bronze solid solution particles of the general formula K x Cs y WO z where x + y ≤ 1 and 2 ≤ z ≤ 3. Particles are, for example, micrometer or nanoscale particles. Also disclosed is an organic or inorganic composition comprising an organic or inorganic substrate and incorporating therein the potassium cesium tungsten bronze solid solution particles of the present invention. The substrate is, for example, a plastic, a coating, an ink, an adhesive, a ceramic or a glass. Also disclosed is a process for the preparation of the potassium cesium tungsten bronze solid particles of the present invention comprising mixing a suitable tungsten source with a salt of potassium and a salt of cesium to form a powder mixture and exposing the powder mixture to a plasma torch under a reducing atmosphere . The tungsten bronze particles of the present invention are suitable NIR absorbents and heat shielding additives. |
