titleOfInvention | Laser marking process and articles |
abstract | The present invention relates to a method of marking multi-layer articles using a laser (20). The multi-layer article 10 comprises a laser markable layer 14 having at least one organic polymer and at least one photosensitive pigment, and comprises at least one release agent combined with the laser markable layer. Laser marking of the laser markable layer is achieved by directing the laser radiation 22 into the multi-layer article through the release agent 12 to induce an interaction between the photosensitive pigment and the organic polymer. As a result of the interaction, a visually recognizable marking 16 is formed within the article. The laser marked article comprises a laser markable layer and a first release agent combined with the surface of the laser markable layer. The marking (s) in the laser markable layer can be seen through the release agent layer and the marking is the result of laser induced interaction between the photosensitive pigment and the organic polymer. |
