titleOfInvention Apparatus and Method for reduction of a solid feedstock
abstract The present invention is directed to a method for reducing a solid feed material such as a solid metal compound, wherein the feed material is disposed on an upper surface of the member (60, 80, 81) in a bipolar electrolytic cell stack within the housing (25). A molten salt electrolyte is circulated through the housing to contact the member and the feed material. A potential sufficient to cause reduction of the solid feed material is applied to the terminals of the bi-polar electrolytic cell stack such that the top surfaces of the members are cathodes and the bottom surfaces of the members are cathodes. The invention also provides an apparatus for carrying out the method.
