titleOfInvention Apparatus and Method for reduction of a solid feedstock
abstract In a method for the reduction of a solid feed material such as a solid metal compound, a feed material portion in an electrolytic apparatus is disposed in each of two or more electrolytic baths (50, 60, 70, 80). The molten salt is provided as an electrolyte in each electrolytic cell. The molten salt is circulated from the molten salt reservoir 10 so that the salt flows through each electrolytic bath. The feedstock is reduced in each of the electrolytic baths by applying a potential across the electrodes of each electrolytic cell, which is sufficient to cause reduction of the feedstock. The present invention also provides an apparatus for implementing the method.
