abstract | The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition and health-aid food comprising an extract of plants of Suaeda spp., particularly an extract of Suaeda maritima, as an active ingredient for preventing or treating thrombosis. More particularly, the present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition and health-aid food comprising an ethyl acetate fraction, butanol fraction or water residue of an extract of Suaeda maritima, or a combination thereof, as an active ingredient for preventing or treating/improving thrombosis through inhibition of blood coagulation and that of platelet aggregation. According to the present invention, the extract of plants of Suaeda spp., particularly an extract of Suaeda maritima, as an active ingredient of a pharmaceutical composition and health-aid food for preventing or treating thrombosis shows strong anti-thrombotic activity derived from inhibition of thrombosis-related enzyme and blood coagulation factors and inhibition of platelet aggregation functioning to trigger thrombosis, as well as shows no hematocytolytic activity to human red blood cells, has excellent heat stability, and causes no loss in the effects of inhibiting blood coagulation factors and thrombosis-related enzymes even under an acidic condition of pH 2 and in the plasma. Thus, it is expected that the extract can be used for preventing and treating thrombosis, such as ischemic stroke and cerebral hemorrhage, by improving blood flow. The active ingredient may be processed into various shapes, such as powder, pills and tablets, so that it may be administered anytime. Therefore, the present is very useful in the pharmaceutical industry and food industry. |
