titleOfInvention Stringed musical instrument having inlaid fretboard and method of making the same
abstract The stringed instrument includes a neck and a cavity formed within the neck. The cavity includes a lower surface and a chamfered portion bent in the side wall of the cavity. An island is formed in the cavity. A fret board including a veneer is assembled into the cavity. The fretboard includes an opening surrounding the island within the cavity. The cavity or fretboard is formed using a computer-controlled or numerically controlled milling machine, a router, a water jet or a laser. The fretboard is mounted within the cavity, and the islands inside the cavity are arranged in openings inside the fretboard. Mounting the fretboard within the cavity includes bending the side wall of the cavity. The sides of the fretboard come into contact with the side walls of the cavity without visible gaps.
