A highly porous needle-like mullite body is produced. A wet process is used to prepare a green body containing a mullite precursor and a porogen. The green body is heated to remove the optional binder and porogen sequentially, and fired. The sintered body is mullified. The process formed a sintered body that had excellent strength and could be handled easily. The mullitized sintered body has very high porosity, small pores and excellent breaking strength. |
