Device for rapid detection of infectious agents |
abstract |
A portable system for detecting the presence of a pathogen in a biological sample in real time employs a reagent that detects the presence of a particular pathogen in the sample and detects the presence of the pathogen by emitting a detectable signal when the reagent reacts with the sample. The test cartridge has a reaction chamber for receiving the sample and the reagent. The reaction chamber has a predetermined internal geometry and at least one internal surface. By introducing the sample and the reagent into the test cartridge, the sample and the reagent are mixed. The testing unit includes a sensor for receiving the test cartridge and detecting the emitted detectable signal. The detection of the emitted detectable signal indicates the presence of a pathogen in the sample. |
