abstract A method and apparatus for power saving in a wireless local area network (WLAN) is disclosed. The station (STA) may receive the parameter associating the STA with a particular STA group and may perform channel access for an allowed period for the STA group based on the parameter. The STA may receive information about the allowed access slots for the STA group and may access the channels during the access slots. The STA may receive a schedule for waking up from a dos state and may go into or out of the dos state based on that schedule. A best channel access priority may be provided for the sensor or metered STA. The STA may indicate to the access point (AP) that the STA will not listen to a traffic indication map (TIM) or forwarding TIM (DTIM) in the beacon.
