titleOfInvention | Ultra high molecular weight polyethylene multifilament yarns, and process for producing thereof |
abstract | The present invention relates to gel-spun ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) multifilament yarns characterized by comprising individual monofilaments having a linear density coefficient of variation (hereinafter, CV intra ) of less than 30%, wherein the monofilament CV intra is determined from the linear density value corresponding to 20 representative lengths randomly extracted by cutting from the monofilament using the following equation: [Equation 1] In this formula, x i is the linear density of any of the representative lengths extracted from the irradiated monofilaments, Is the average linear density of 20 linear densities measured for a representative length of 20 (n = 20). The present invention also relates to a gel-spun UHMWPE multifilament yarn characterized by a linear density coefficient of variation (hereinafter CV inter ) between the monofilaments constituting the yarn is less than 50%. The present invention also provides a method of making the gel-spun UHMWPE multifilament yarn, wherein a chamber is present in front of the spinning plate such that dispensing of the UHMWPE solution does not occur before the solution is finally dispensed into individual monofilaments by the spinneret, Characterized in that the solution in the chamber has a residence time (tau) of at least 5 seconds at a given throughput of UHMWPE solution. The invention also relates to ropes, nets, medical cables or composites comprising the yarns of the invention. |
