abstract | The method of making a composite filter media comprises, in an exemplary embodiment, forming a nonwoven mat comprising a plurality of synthetic fibers by a spunbond process and filtering efficiency measured according to the EN 1822 (1998) Calendering a nonwoven fabric mat by an embossing calender roll to form a bonded area pattern comprising a plurality of substantially parallel discontinuous lines of the bonded area to bond the synthetic fibers together to form a nonwoven fabric of less than about 35% to less than 50% . The method also includes applying the polymer solution to the electro-optic material to form a plurality of nanofibers on at least one side of the nonwoven mat to form a composite filter media having a minimum filtration efficiency of about 70% measured according to the EN 1822 (1998) And applying the nanofiber layer by blowing radiation. |
