abstract | Disclosed are adsorbents and methods for adsorbing and separating meta-xylene from a mixture comprising one or more other C 8 alkyl aromatic hydrocarbons (e.g., a mixture of ortho-xylene, meta-xylene, para-xylene, and ethylbenzene). Suitable adsorbents include sodium zeolite Y having an average microcrystalline size in the range of 50 to 700 nm. This sorbent improves the separation efficiency, which may be associated with higher meta-xylene mass transfer rates and / or other beneficial effects. Exemplary desorbents for use in this process may include toluene, benzene or indane. |
