A nanoscale ionic storage material is provided that exhibits unique properties that are measurably distinct from larger scale counterpart materials. For example, nanoscale materials can exhibit increased electron conductivity, improved electromechanical stability, increased insertion rate, and / or extended solid solution range. Useful nanoscale materials include alkaline transition metal phosphates such as LiMPO 4 , where M is at least one transition metal. Nanoscale ion storage materials are useful for manufacturing devices such as high-energy and high-output batteries, battery-capacitor hybrid devices, and large-rate electrochromic devices. |
