abstract | The present invention provides a process for recovering metal from a pulmonary dispersion catalyst derived from a Group VIB metal sulfide catalyst comprising at least one Group VB and Group VIII metal for hydrocarbon oil hydrotreating. In one embodiment, the metal recovery process comprises pyrolyzing a stream containing a pulmonary dispersion catalyst in a heavy oil to provide at least one light oil product and a coke-like material; Contacting the stream containing the spent dispersing catalyst with an ammonia-containing leach solution at a sufficient temperature and pressure to dissolve the Group VIB metal and the Group VIII metal in the leaching solution; Forming a solid residue comprising a slurry comprising at least a Group VIB metal complex and at least one Group VIII metal complex, ammonium sulfate and at least one Group VB metal complex and coke; Separating and removing from the pressure leaching solution (PLS) a solid residue containing ammonium metavanadate and coke; Adjusting the pH at the preselected pH to precipitate at least some of the Group VIB metal and at least some of the Group VIII metal from the PLS to precipitate the Group VIB and Group VIII metals into metal complexes. |
