abstract | The present invention relates to a low molecular weight, brominated, anionic chain transfer vinyl aromatic polymer, hereinafter 'flame retardant composition containing ACTVAP'. The composition can accommodate a high bromine content and still exhibits a thermally unstable low bromine content. The composition has a glass transition temperature, T g , which is an estimate of acceptable melt flow and heat distortion temperature (HDT) in HIPS and ABS compounding base materials. These compositions are suitable flame retardant candidates for use in thermoplastic formulations, such as polystyrene and ABS formulations. |
