abstract An optimal method and apparatus for effecting liquid oxidation of an oxidizable compound more efficiently and economically is disclosed. This liquid phase oxidation is carried out in a bubble column reactor which provides for a more efficient reaction at relatively low temperatures. When the oxidized compound is para-xylene and the product from the oxidation reaction is crude terephthalic acid (CTA), this CTA product is more economical than that used when CTA is formed by conventional high temperature oxidation processes And the like.
