The present invention discloses an electrolyte comprising a solution of lithium salts with large ions in a polar aprotic solvent with salts underlying a certain concentration. The concentration of the underlying salt is chosen to be equal to or close to the saturated solution concentration of these salts in the aprotic solvent used. The electrolyte of the present invention can be used in chemical sources of electrical energy, such as secondary (rechargeable) cells and batteries, including sulfur-based positive electrode active materials.
