The present invention provides methods and compositions for the preparation of good lubricants or lubricant components by oligomerizing mixtures comprising olefins and isoparaffins to produce alkylated ("capped") olefin oligomers having very high VI and low cloud points. Preferably the method utilizes an acidic chloroaluminate ionic liquid catalyst system. Preferably the ionic liquid catalyst system comprises Bronsted acid. |
