A second ply structure suitable for incorporation into a continuous fiber reinforced composite structure comprising a matrix material and a plurality of fiber ply reinforced structures, a continuous fiber reinforced composite material thus formed, and a method of making the same are described. The second ply comprises, for example, a carrier sheet in the form of a ply of first fibers, which extends outwardly of the sheet plane in a three dimensional generally aligned manner and is arranged in a generally aligned manner over at least a major portion of the surface thereof. It has a two-dimensional planar array of secondary fibers, which provides out-of-plane reinforcement in the incorporated structure. |
