The present invention provides a cathode active material for a lithium ion battery and a method of manufacturing the same. The cathode active material comprises a sintered product, which is formed by sintering lithium iron phosphate with one or more metal oxides. The metal oxide is an oxide of a metal selected from the group consisting of elements of group IIA, IIIA, IVA, VA, IIIB, IVB and VB.
