abstract The present invention provides a process for the catalytic epoxidation of styrene into styrene with oxygen molecules using cobalt containing zeolites. Catalytic epoxidation of styrene-to-styrene epoxides was carried out using oxygen molecules in the presence of Co 2+ exchanged zeolites. Oxygen molecules obtained from air are useful for epoxidation reactions at atmospheric pressure. The presence of adsorbed water molecules in the catalyst increases styrene conversion without affecting styrene oxide selectivity. Various alkali and alkaline earth metal promoters are introduced into the zeolite catalyst to increase the styrene oxide selectivity. The present invention investigated whether adsorption water molecules and alkali and alkaline earth metal cation promoters in cobalt exchanged zeolite catalysts affected styrene conversion and styrene oxide selectivity in the catalytic epoxidation of styrene to styrene oxide by oxygen molecules.n n n Catalytic epoxidation, styrene, styrene oxide, metal ion exchange, zeolites, oxygen molecules
