abstract | A method of making a hydrophobically modified rheology modifier is provided which is characterized by polymerizing a monomer mixture having two or more components. The first component is H 2 C═C (R) C (O) X (CH 2 CH 2 O) n (CH (R ′) CH 2 O) m R ″ or H 2 C═C (R) C 6 H 4 C (CH 3 ) 2 NHCO 2 (CH 2 CH 2 O) n (CH (R ') CH 2 O) m R "(where X is O or NH, R is H or CH 3 , and R' Is C 1 -C 2 alkyl; R ″ is C 8 -C 22 alkyl or C 8 -C 16 alkylphenyl; n is an average number of 6 to 100 and m is an average number of 0 to 50, provided that ≥ m and m + n is 6 to 100.
