Apparatus and method for gas collection during electrolysis |
abstract |
An electrolysis cell includes a pair of electrodes connected to a current source, an electrolyte in fluid communication with the electrodes; A first gas formed at the first electrode; A second gas formed at the second electrode; A separator, and first and second gas collection vessels. The separator includes a first inclined surface to direct the flow of the first gas and the electrolyte toward the first gas collection vessel and away from the second electrode due to the difference between the combined density of the first gas and the electrolyte and the density of the electrolyte. The separator includes a second inclined surface to direct the flow of the second gas and the electrolyte toward the second gas collection vessel and away from the first electrode due to the difference between the combined density of the second gas and the electrolyte and the density of the electrolyte. |
