abstract | To provide pH stability to the product and to prevent the growth of bacteria and fungi, tobacco products or non-tobacco snuff products comprising magnesium carbonate are provided. Magnesium carbonate can contain hydroxides, oxides and crystal water. The amount of magnesium carbonate is in the range of 0.01 to 30% by weight of the dry bulk material. The product may be combined with additional pH adjusters. Magnesium carbonate significantly increases pH stability in snus and non-tobacco snuffs in the normal pH range in which these products are used. The final product, which may be an oral snuff or snus or any tobacco-eliminating snuff product, may be in particulate form or may be formed in various forms. The product may be an oral product. The product can be packaged in a box, can or can. The use of magnesium carbonate to make such products is included in the present invention. |
