abstract | The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of silica filled rubber masterbatches using hydrophobized silica with trimethoxy silane coupling agent. In one embodiment a mixture of trimethoxy silanes is used, wherein at least one of the trimethoxysilanes reacts with rubber to bond silica to the rubber, and at least one of the trimethoxysilanes does not react with rubber, Hydrophobize the silica. The hydrophobized silica is mixed with the latex polymer and incorporated into the rubber during the coagulation of the latex, which is preferably coagulated with calcium chloride. The present invention further provides a process for preparing the trimethoxy silane coupling agent. Preferred trimethoxy silane coupling agents include bis- (3-trimethoxysilylpropyl) disulfide and bis- (3-trimethoxysilylpropyl) -tetrasulfide. The long scorch time of the silica masterbatch of the present invention allows rubber products, in particular tires, to be blended sufficiently. |
