abstract The present invention relates to a process for preparing 2-deoxy-2-fluoro-2-methyl-D-ribonolactone derivatives, and (ii) to lactones with nucleosides and their analogs having potential anti-HCV activity. A method of conversion, and (iii) an anti-comprising 2-fluoro-2-C-methyl-β-D-ribofuranosyl nucleoside derived from a preformed, preferably naturally-occurring nucleoside. Provided are methods for preparing HCV nucleosides.
