titleOfInvention | How to change the surface properties of the microspheres |
abstract | The present invention provides several methods of forming stained microspheres. One way is to activate the chemical structure linked to the dye using heat or light to form reaction intermediates in the presence of microspheres. The reaction intermediate is covalently bound to the polymer of the microsphere, whereby the dye is linked to the polymer, forming a dyed microsphere. Another method provides a method for forming stained microspheres linked to molecules. Such methods include the steps of staining the microspheres as described above, as well as synthesizing the molecules on the outer surface of the stained microspheres. Stained microsphere populations are also provided. Each dyed microsphere of the population comprises a dye linked to the polymer of each dyed microsphere by its chemical structure. The coefficient of change in dye properties of the dyed microsphere population due to the dye is less than about 10%.n n n n Microspheres, Surface Properties, Enolic Acid, Hydrophilic Groups, Charge Density |
