titleOfInvention Liquid-Liquid Separation Process with Coalescer
abstract The process of separating ionic liquids from hydrocarbons uses a coalescer material having a stronger affinity for ionic liquids than hydrocarbons. The coalescer material may be a high surface area material having a large amount of contact area to which ionic droplets dispersed in hydrocarbons can adhere. The process includes feeding a mixture comprising ionic droplets dispersed in a hydrocarbon to a coalescer comprising a coalescer material. The process includes a capturing step comprising adhering at least a portion of the ionic droplet to a coalescer material to provide a captured droplet and a coalescing step including coalescing the captured droplet in the form of coalesced droplets. After the capture and coalescing step, the coalesced droplets are separated from the coalescer material to separate the ionic liquid from the hydrocarbon and provide a hydrocarbon effluent.
