titleOfInvention Methods of Quantifying Botulinum Toxin
abstract The present invention relates to a method for measuring the amount of presynaptic neuromuscular blocking substance (particularly botulinum toxin) contained in a sample. In one aspect, the method includes the following steps:n n n (Iii) measuring the minimum voltage V m necessary to induce contraction of muscle tissue, the muscle tissue being connected to an electrical stimulator via motor nerves, preferably immersed in oxidized physiological buffer containing glucose;n n n (Ii) adding a sample containing presynaptic neuromuscular blocking material;n n n (Iii) electrically stimulating muscle tissue at regular time intervals at a voltage at least equal to V m ;n n n (Iii) comparing the effect induced by the sample with the effect induced by the control, thereby measuring the amount of presynaptic neuromuscular blocking substance in the sample.n n n n Botulinum toxin, quantitative, presynaptic neuromuscular blocker, muscle tissue
