abstract | The present invention provides a process for modifying zeolite catalysts that increases the para-xylene selectivity of zeolite catalysts in toluene methylation. This method includes forming a slurry of a ZSM-5 type zeolite and an aqueous phosphorus compound solution. Water is removed from the slurry to provide a phosphorus treated ZSM-5 zeolite catalyst that is not steamed without phosphorus deposition on the catalyst by organic phosphorus deposition.
